Our model uses 4,750–9,500 hours at an assumed blended freelance rate of £40–£60 per hour. The hours and blended rate are our planning assumptions, not industry measurements of these books. For context, the CIEP’s 2026–27 editorial benchmarks range from £31.92 for proofreading to £46.19 for project management; specialist authoring is a separate task. The EFA’s 2026 rate survey also distinguishes writing, STEM editing and layout.
